AREAS ERASMUS PROJECT IN HANOI VIETNAM 25-26 OCT 2011

ATTENDING KICK-OFF MEETING ON AREAS ERASMUS PROJECT IN HANOI UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOG, VIETNAM, 25-26 OCT 2011

Universiti Kuala Lumpur is proud to be the Higher Learning Institution from Malaysia in the consortium of 10 European and 10 Asian Universities to receive the ERASMUS MUNDUS GRANT under the AREAS (Academic Relations between Europe and Asia) Project. With this grant, under Erasmus Mundus Action 2, the university is privileged to conduct the ERASMUS MUNDUS International Mobility programme for its staff and students to 10 consortium European countries involved. The project duration will be from July 2011 until July 2015.

The kick-off meeting of the AREAS project has successfully been held in Hanoi, Vietnam on 25th-26th October, followed by visits from the EU University partners to the Asian universities partners for the promotional and information session, in conjunction with the announcement of 1st Cohort Call for Application which will be opened from 1st Nov 2011 until 31st Jan 2012.

The main objective of AREAS project is to promote higher education cooperation between EU and Asia: Mobility from the Asian countries involved (Vietnam, Mongolia, Laos, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and The Philippines) to the European Union. There will be 98 scholarships available in this project at all levels, from Undergraduate to Master Students, from Doctorate students to academic and administrative staff for the purpose of studying, researching, teaching and training in order to develop their qualifications and their international experience.

WORKING VISIT TO FRANCE OCT 2011

INVITED SPEAKER AT INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS HOSTING WORKSHOP, LE CREUSOT, FRANCE, 10-15 OCT 2011

An International Student Hosting workshop (focusing on Asian students) which was held recently on 12th October 2011 in Le Creusot City in France. Attended by more than one hundred academia and International students, the one day workshop highlighted not only on the technical research aspects but also to share experiences in managing the implementation of academic collaborations and International Students mobility which covering topics such as international communication, practical aspects of Asian student hosting, teaching perspective, learners perspective, etc. The event was organised by EACOVIROE (Enhance the Attractiveness of Computer vision and Robotics in Europe) project funded by Erasmus Mundus.

There were 10 papers were presented by the invited speakers from various countries such as Holland, France, Poland, Spain, Austria, Switzerland, as well from Asia countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. It is a privilege and honor for UniKL when one of the staff, Assoc Prof Dr Jamel Othman, Director of UniKL International Office was invited to present and share UniKL’s experiences in this seminar. He has presented a paper on “SHARING EXPERIENCE IN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MOBILITY PROGRAMS: UniKL, Malaysia and the French / European Institutions.
